System Flushing, Chemicals & Filters

System Flushing

Have you ever bled your radiators and dirty black water has appeared? This dirty black water should not be there, it is a by-product of a reaction which is taking place within your central heating system.

This black sludge is known as iron oxide or magnetite. This can cause corrosion and blockages within your boiler and system causing unnecessary breakdowns, cold spots on radiators and inefficient heating systems.

There are a number of ways we can tackle this problem. At IJS Trade Services, we use a system called Magnacleanse developed by the company Adey. This process removes almost all sludge from your system and boiler with the use of chemicals and vibration. At the bottom of the page there is a video and animation demonstrating how this process is achieved.

Chemicals & Filters

How do chemicals and filters benefit your central heating system? To clean a central heating system a chemical is used called central heating cleaner which breaks up all the sludge within the system allowing it to be removed or flushed out. Once the system is clean, a chemical is added called an inhibitor. This chemical is the first line of defence from the black sludge returning. The chemical works by not allowing the chemical reactions to take place causing the sludge. A filter can also be fitted, this is the second line of defence. If sludge did start to build up due to a lack of inhibitor in the system, the filter will capture the sludge using magnetism.
